Daily Bible Reading Day 152

2Chronicles 1-3; John 12:1-19.  Solomon's first act on becoming king is to go up to the Tabernacle and worship The Lord.  He then sets about building the temple and his own royal palace. He appears to appoint 70,000 workers and 80,000 quarry workers and then 3,600 to supervise these workers. But later it says that these are aliens in Israel. Need more research on subject because I've forgotten what I discovered when I studied it for the class I taught. Solomon calls on the king of Tyre to deliver cedars from Lebanon. As he gets started God appears to him in a dream and says he can ask what he wants. Solomon asks for wisdom and knowledge to lead the people. God is pleased and grants him his request plus riches and honor. Solomon is off to a good start.

Jesus goes to Bethany, the home of Lazarus and his two sisters, for dinner. Mary anoints Jesus with an expensive jar of perfume. Judas protests because he wants it sold and put in their money bag which he pilfers. Many Jews find out where Jesus is staying and come out to see him and Lazarus. Meanwhile the chief priests are plotting to kill Jesus and Lazarus. Jesus then enters Jerusalem and the people hail him as the king of Israel. The stage is set.
