Daily Bible Reading Day 149

1Chronicles 23-25;  John 11:1-17.  David begins the work of giving the Levites, those who are not priests, new job descriptions. Since they can no longer work at or carry the Tabernacle, they need new jobs. David reassigns them new tasks. The text recounts the genealogy of the Levites and the chiefs and then orders them into 24 divisions. He also makes some singers and some musicians. Asaph, Heman, Jeduthan, and the sons of Korah are mentioned in Chronicles and they are also mentioned in some of the titles of the Psalms.

Jesus is on a retreat with the disciples. He gets word from Mary and Martha that their brother Lazarus is sick unto death. He delays seemingly to give time for Lazarus to die. Then he sets out to go there to Lazarus. He tells them that Lazarus has fallen asleep which they don't understand. The Jews want to kill him so why risk going back? Jesus is glad that he wasn't there so that now God can be glorified.
