Daily Bible Reading Day 122

1Kings 1-2; Luke 22:54-71. David is now old and about ready to die. They secure for him a young and beautiful maiden to keep him warm. During this time Adonijah, one of David's sons, decides to try to take the throne for himself. He gets Joab and Abiathar to follow him. Nathan gets Bathsheba to go tell David and David officially announces Solomon as king. David counsels Solomon to deal with Joab and Shimei. Solomon also gives the high priest office to Zadok instead of Abiathar. Adonijah doesn't fight the ascension of Solomon but does ask for the young maiden that served David. For that request Solomon has Adonijah executed.

While Jesus is taken to be questioned by the high priest, Peter follows and ends up in the courtyard near where Jesus is being questioned and beaten. After his three-fold denial Jesus turns and looks at him. This part is unique to Luke's Gospel. Jesus captors demand to know if he is the Christ but Jesus says that even if he tells them they will not believe.
