Daily Bible Reading Day 124

1Kings 6-7; Luke 23:27-38. These to chapters tell the story of Solomon building the temple. Two interesting features are first there is no hammer or noise at the building site. All the cutting of stone is done at the quarry. Second Solomon brings a man named Hiram from Tyre, whose mother is a widow from Naphtali and his father is from Tyre. Hiram is filled with the Spirit to do work with bronze. The temple takes seven years. Solomon's own house takes thirteen years. I would imagine with 700 wives and 300 concubines his house was quite extensive. Pharaoh's daughter had her own house. I wonder how many other wives had a separate house?

On the way to the place of crucifixion a large crowd and women are following and weeping. Jesus tells them not to weep for him but for their children. He again tells them that Jerusalem will pay the price for rejecting him. Once there Jesus utters the line, "Father, forgive them for they know not what they do." Some are sneering and the mocking begins.
